Bank of Palestine contributes to supporting the project to rehabilitate the children’s disability unit at the Khalil Abu Raya Rehabilitation Center
Ramallah – Bank of Palestine has contributed to supporting the rehabilitation project of the children’s unit at the Khalil Abu Raya Center by providing a set of medical equipment for the unit. This initiative aims to enhance the unit’s capacity to provide specialized therapeutic and rehabilitation services for children with physical disabilities, enabling the center to receive dozens of children with disabilities from villages, rural areas, and remote regions across the country. The project is expected to benefit nearly 100 children annually.
The unit, staffed by trained and qualified professionals, offers an integrated program of therapeutic, rehabilitation, and primary healthcare services for children with conditions such as spinal cord hydrocephalus, spinal injuries, cerebral palsy, head trauma, neurological and muscular diseases, and burn injuries.
The program includes nursing care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy, psychological support, speech therapy, and recreational therapy, in addition to services provided by supporting medical departments and specialized physicians in rehabilitation and neurology. The unit also allows children with disabilities to stay at the center accompanied by their mothers, which increases the effectiveness of the treatment and rehabilitation plans provided to them.
The Bank of Palestine’s support for this project is part of its commitment to social responsibility and aligns with its goals of achieving sustainable economic and social development. The bank believes in the importance of supporting all segments of society, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable groups, especially children and persons with disabilities.
In this context, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Shawa, General Manager of Bank of Palestine, emphasized the bank’s strong commitment to supporting persons with disabilities, stating:
“We are pleased to contribute to supporting this project in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Through all our humanitarian and community programs, we translate our commitment to supporting this group. This is consistent with our social responsibility and our efforts to achieve financial inclusion, as we work to adapt our banking products to serve, empower, and integrate this group as an active segment of society—aligned with our strategic objectives to create a sustainable impact in our Palestinian community.”
Al-Shawa added:
“Our interest in this project stems from our dedication to meeting the needs of children with disabilities and their families, and to alleviating the psychological and financial burdens placed on Palestinian families caring for them.”
He expressed the bank’s pride in its partnership with the Khalil Abu Raya Center, which has become “a distinguished institution in providing high-quality rehabilitation services that meet the highest international standards.” He affirmed that this collaboration “will contribute to advancing rehabilitation services and improving the healthcare and rehabilitation landscape in Palestine.”
This project is part of a series of initiatives and programs supported by Bank of Palestine to empower persons with disabilities. Several years ago, the bank offered interest- and fee-exempt loans within an affordable $1 million financing portfolio dedicated to small and micro-projects for persons with disabilities. This initiative was implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and under the supervision of the Palestine Monetary Authority as part of the “Sustainability Fund,” to empower this group to launch income-generating projects that ensure a stable source of income and a dignified life.
The health sector is one of the core sectors that Bank of Palestine supports annually as part of its development efforts, along with education, culture, youth, women, and others—all geared toward enhancing the quality of services provided to the Palestinian community. The bank allocates 5% of its annual profits to support these sectors, in recognition of its role as a leading national financial institution committed to contributing responsibly to comprehensive and sustainable development in Palestine
