BOP Chairman and General Manager Hashem Al-Shawa and Director General of Al-Makassed Islamic Charitable Society Hospital in Jerusalem Dr Rafiq Husseini signed an MoU whereby BOP will provide for the procurement of caravans for accommodating patients and their escorts from outside the city of Jerusalem. The signing of the MoU took place at the end of last week at the hospital HQ.
Al-Shawa stated BOP’s donation stems from its commitment to corporate social responsibility and coincides with the dire economic condition Palestinian hospitals in Jerusalem are facing. He stressed the role of the hospital in providing medical care to patients arriving from all over Palestine. According to Al-Shawa, the donation aims to provide Al-Makassed Hospital with caravans for the accommodation of patients and their escorts from outside Jerusalem in order to save them the time and effort of looking for an accommodation that might cost them a lot of money. Al-Shawa said the position of BOP as a leading bank in Palestine is to help and support national organizations and institutions in both good and bad times.
In addition Al-Shawa extolled BOP’s initiatives to support the Palestinian health sector, including “Gaza is in Our Hearts” Campaign through which BOP delivered dialysis equipment to Gaza hospitals. BOP shares the same vision with the civil society institutions concerning the sustainability of the health sector.
Dr Husseini highlighted the services provided by Al-Makassed Hospital to Palestinians from all the governorates, including Gaza Strip. Moreover, the hospital holds training sessions for medical staff from different clinics and hospitals in the Palestinian governorates. He valued the support of BOP adding that health and education are fundamental elements that the Palestinian society has to cater for.
In 2014 Al-Makassed Hospital received the JCI health quality accreditation, which manifests the hospital’s commitment to international health care standards provided to patients,
