GEFF is a global financing initiative that supports the transition to a green economy.

Mr. Mahmoud Shawa, CEO of Bank of Palestine, attended the launch ceremony alongside a number of the Bank's senior managers. The event was held at the Millennium Hotel in Ramallah and brought together representatives of government, local and international institutions, and local and international media outlets. Bank of Palestine's booth attracted significant interest, offering an opportunity to engage with stakeholders and showcase the Bank's green financing solutions.

During the event, Bank of Palestine representatives introduced visitors to the Bank's financing programs designed to support the transition to a green economy. These include tailored financing solutions for environmentally friendly projects, renewable energy initiatives, and projects that improve water efficiency and conserve natural resources. The programs serve individuals, businesses, and institutions of various sizes, from micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to large corporations.

Commenting on the Bank's participation in the GEFF launch, Mr. Mahmoud Shawa emphasized that the Bank's involvement reflects its longstanding strategic commitment to comprehensive sustainability under the slogan "A Green and Sustainable Future." He noted that this commitment stems from the Bank's dedication to preserving natural resources and supporting a sustainable, prosperous future for generations to come, including the transition to a green and sustainable economy.

Mr. Shawa added: "Our participation today reflects our strong and longstanding strategic partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Over the years, we have worked together to implement numerous joint initiatives and financing programs aimed at empowering diverse segments of Palestinian society, particularly women and youth, encouraging green and sustainable projects, and supporting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises. We highly value the EBRD's efforts and commitment to launching the Green Economy Financing Facility, and we reaffirm our dedication to continuing this partnership and working together to advance sustainable development in Palestine."

Mr. Shawa further highlighted that Bank of Palestine has been among the pioneering Palestinian banking institutions in introducing financing products that support the transition to a green economy. Through its responsible and sustainable financing programs and green loans, the Bank continues to provide solutions tailored to the needs of its diverse customer base.

He also noted that, in 2023, Bank of Palestine Group became a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB), developed under the United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative (UNEP FI). These principles provide a comprehensive framework guiding signatory banks in implementing sustainability strategies and action plans aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

Bank of Palestine continues to integrate sustainability principles across its internal and external operations and throughout its banking products and services. The Bank further demonstrates this commitment through its active participation in and support for initiatives and events that promote the transition to a green economy and encourage environmentally sustainable projects across Palestine.

As part of these efforts, the Bank remains committed to empowering individuals, entrepreneurs, owners of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, and larger corporations by facilitating access to financing programs for renewable energy, recycling, water efficiency, and natural resource conservation projects.

These financing solutions aim to protect the environment, reduce carbon emissions, and preserve natural resources for future generations. At the same time, they help individuals and businesses reduce operating costs, support business continuity, and strengthen economic resilience. Such initiatives play an important role in empowering Palestinian communities, supporting the national economy, and enhancing its ability to address various challenges.

Through its diverse financing programs, Bank of Palestine seeks to enable different segments of society to access sustainable financial solutions and benefit from its comprehensive range of banking and digital services.
